he Young Israel of Southfield Sisterhood is an organization for women in the Young Israel of Southfield and larger Detroit Jewish communities. The Sisterhood offers a variety of social, educational, and cultural programs. In addition, a Tehillim Shiur is given every Tuesday afternoon, and a group of Sisterhood members meets weekly to recite Sefer Tehillim.
To maintain and enhance the synagogue, the Sisterhood holds a variety of fundraising events. Two of its most successful programs are the annual Mishloach Manot project and the ongoing sale of gift cards. Monies raised are earmarked for youth programming.
Yearly events and programs include:
- Tea in the Sukkah
- Simchat Torah speaker
- Cholent cook-off
- Chanuka family dinner
- Scrapbooking fundamentals
- Book reviews
- Weekly yoga classes
- Mishloach Manot
- Shavuot women’s learning
- Various lectures and events
As an additional service to the community, the Sisterhood provides electric candlesticks to those in the hospital over Shabbat or Yomtov.
The Sisterhood welcomes women of all ages and always looks for new ideas for events or programs. Contact the shul if you have any suggestions, or if you’d like additional information on Sisterhood programming.
