The total perimeter of the Young Israel of Southfield Eruv is approximately 7.5 miles. The map below shows the approximate boundaries of the eruv. Please keep a look out for the eruv perimeter if you are traveling near a boundary. Note that east of Lahser Road, the pedestrian side of W. 11 Mile Road is not included in the eruv.
The Rouge River section of the Eruv includes all areas within the borders of the eruv map west of Bell Road. While this boundary line is strong, it is less viable than the steel cables used elsewhere. Although this section of the eruv is regularly maintained and there are not often difficulties with it, from time to time this area may become temporarily unbounded. Because of this possibility, the eruv was constructed such that the rest of the eruv is still bordered by a secondary line that extends all the way down Bell Road. Therefore, if the eruv message of the week states that the eruv is in effect except for the Rouge River section, it means one can carry in any section of the eruv east of Bell Road.
One should not take the eruv for granted. Any number of things can occur to invalidate it, especially during the winter. Please call the Shul (248 358-0154) for the status of the eruv or for questions regarding the boundaries.
