Young Israel of Southfield Eruv Map

The total perimeter of the YIS Eruv is approximately 7.5 miles. Please familiarize yourself with the map below that indicates the boundaries. Note that, east of Lahser Rd, the pedestrian side of W 11 Mile Rd is not included in the Eruv.

The Rouge River section of the Eruv includes all areas within the borders of the Eruv map west of Bell Road. While this boundary line is strong, it is less viable than the steel cables used elsewhere. Although we maintain this part of the Eruv and seldom have difficulties with it, if this area becomes unbounded temporarily, the rest of the Eruv is still bordered by a secondary line that extends all the way down Bell Rd (see dotted line). Therefore, if the Eruv message of the week states that the Eruv is in effect except for the Rouge River section, it means one can carry in any section of the Eruv east of Bell Road.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

One should not take the Eruv for granted. Any number of things can occur to invalidate it, especially during the winter. Please call the Shul (248 - 358- 0154) for the status of the Eruv for the coming Shabbat. Do not assume it is usable unless you have checked. It is also important to discuss the Eruv and its function with your children. Remind them there is still a prohibition against carrying outside the Eruv.
